Meet the Maker: Ray Nadeson fro Lethbridge
Friday, 30 August 2019 from 5 pm
28th Aug 2019 | Tasting & Events
Lethbridge was founded by scientists Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Adrian Thomas. In Ray’s words, ‘Our belief is that the best wines express the unique character of special places.’ As well as understanding the importance of terroir, the partners have built a unique straw-bale winery, designed to recreate the controlled environment of cellars and caves in Europe.
The fruit used to produce the range of Lethbridge Wines comes from two historical vineyards. The Estate Vineyard in Lethbridge was originally planted in 1874 by Swiss immigrants (replanted by the current owners in 1996) whilst the vineyard site in Mt Duneed was first planted in 1858, and was the first vineyard to be replanted in Geelong as the region re-emerged in the 1970’s. Their innovative winery, commitment to biodynamic farming, environmental sustainability and many years of producing outstanding fine wines has made them one of the best wineries in Geelong.

13th Aug 2019 | Tasting & Events
$50 per person, $30 redeemable with wine purchased on the evening.

Tickets available here.
While his range includes many famous terroirs, Leroux is determined only to work with vineyards that have been well managed and produce outstanding fruit, regardless of whether or not they have famous names. He has never been in charge of a finer roster of vineyards, and, consequently, there have been few finer releases from a grower that is now at the very top of his game.
Leroux describes 2017 as a vintage he would happily take every year—an assessment borne out in an absolutely stunning range of wines. The whites have great mineral tension and pulpy succulence, while the reds are bright, aromatic and pretty with the body and depth to encourage ageing. Both sets of wines show great class and intensity and are, importantly, a joy to drink.
Although Benjamin Leroux can't be with us this year, he’ll be sharing his thoughtful insights on the vintage and more via a short film recently recorded in Burgundy.
