Suavia & Terre a Terre Wine Tasting with Alain Lee

Friday, 5 July from 5 pm in the Loft

2nd Jul 2019 | Tasting & Events

Without exception, Suavia is one of the leaders in quality and terroir expression of the Soave Classico region. Named after an ancient medieval village, the family have been farming vineyards here since the 1800’s. Found on the worlds best winelists, these wines are a must try for anyone wishing to experience some truly unique Venetian wines.

Terre a Terre is a French expression meaning ‘Down to Earth’. Carefully selected vineyards in cool climate regions of South Australia provide fruit for a range that reflects European styles of winemaking, focusing on texture and structure. Beautiful, thoughtful wines from a family rooted in the history of the South Australian wine industry.

Beaufort d’Alpage Cheese Cracking & Wine Pairing

Thursday, 20 June from 6 pm in the Wine Loft

17th Jun 2019 | Tasting & Events

Join us in the Wine Loft for a very special cheese cracking of the very limited Beaufort d’Alpage Cheese that will be matched with delicious French wine. This is an incredibly special cheese! The AOC rules dictate that Beaufort can only be made in the Savoie and Haute-Savoie departments in the Rhône-Alps region of eastern France. Beaufort d’Alpage (meaning “of mountain pasture”) is only made in the summer in small mountain chalets. The milk comes from the Tarentaise breed of cows that graze at altitudes of 6,000 feet or more. It takes approximately 530L of milk, the daily production of 30 cows, to make 1 wheel of Beaufort. Beaufort d’Alpage is a hard cooked mountain cheese with a smooth texture and a rich, nutty sweet flavour.

Winemaker Diego Santanta join’s us all the way from Spain for an in depth talk about the wines of Rioja and Valenciso. From humble beginnings, Valenciso have become a leading light amongst Rioja’s small band of micro, terroir focused producers. Their Rioja Reserva is widely considered to be one of the regions benchmark reds. Valenciso’s wines are subtle, elegant and super refined.

At a dinner in Melbourne, circa 2012, Jesús Barquín, renowned Spanish wine writer and founder of the Equipo Navazos project, had a very clear message about Valenciso. He said this: “If you asked me to name just one producer from Rioja that you should buy, it would be Valenciso.” Enough said!

Ninth generation winemaker Dominique Portet, quite simply, is international winemaking royalty. From a winemaking family that stretches back 10 generations in Bordeaux, his father Andre Portet was vineyard and winery manager of Château Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac. A tenacious search for grape growing terroir to rival that of his native Bordeaux led Dominique to the cool climate of the Yarra Valley where he founded his winery in 2000. His son Ben now heads the winemaking team whose own resume boasts time spent with the likes of Bordeaux’s Château Beychevelle, Champagnes Louis Roederer and the Rhone Valleys M. Chapoutier. Ben joins us this Wednesday, 5 June for what is sure to be an incredible evening of tasting and discussion around both new and old world techniques, traditions and terroirs.

Four Pillars 2019 Bloody Shiraz Gin

1 June 2019

28th May 2019 | Tasting & Events

The very popular Bloody Shiraz Gin from Four Pillars will be available from our Wine Loft on Saturday,1 June - the official launch date of the 2019 vintage! It has sold out two years in a row, with very limited amount being made. Don't miss out this year! Pre-orders are welcome - call the Loft on 08 9284 5176 or email

The 2018 release had great depth of colour and was much richer and more vibrant than 2017, carrying really beautiful purples and reds to bottle. Flavour-wise it showed dark fruit, red berry and spice. There was also plenty of that classic Yarra Shiraz white pepper. And of course a lovely ginny character carried those grape aromas, making it unmistakably gin. The palate was lovely and sweet, with long juniper and spice characters to finish.

Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers - Cashel Blue

Friday, 17 May 2019 from 4 pm to 6 pm

16th May 2019 | Tasting & Events

Join us for a tasting in the Cheese Department, from Friday 17 May 2019 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Established in 1984, Cashel Blue® is the original Irish farmhouse cow’s milk blue cheese. Cashel Blue has a white appearance or paste as it is technically called when young turning increasingly towards a buttery yellow as it matures. Throughout this paste there is a blueing often referred to as having marble-like pattern. The rind, which with time can develop a film of surface mould is untreated and is therefore edible. It is intrinsic to the cheese and contributes to the breaking down of the paste, adding further flavour and complexity.
