The robust flavour, complexity and depth of Super Tuscans, as well as their rarity, make them highly sought after and some of the most interesting wines Italy has to offer. Super Tuscans don’t follow the strict rules of the Chianti appellation and are known to be bolder and richer than traditional Tuscan wines. This weekend we have three expressions of this intriguing category of wine open to taste, including a superb local West Australian version that holds its own against its Tuscan sources of inspiration!

The Frascole vineyards sit atop ancient Roman sites overlooking the town of Dicomano in Tuscany and were founded in 1968. The organic vineyards are high-density with low yields, and all harvesting is conducted by hand. Organically grown Sangiovese, Caniolo and Colorino offer bright blackberry and spice aromas followed by juicy black plum and clove on the palate. Here is a Chianti that is the perfect pizza and pasta wine! It is slightly lighter than some of its other Chianti counterparts, making it more approachable and perfect drinking during the cooler months!
