Spanish Wines - Rioja, Spain in Focus

Friday, 24 March - Sunday, 26 March

23rd Mar 2023 | Tasting & Events

This weekend we are turning our focus to the award-winning Rioja region, featuring a bright, fresh Tempranillo and a barrel-fermented white, perfect for accompanying our new Jamón y Pan Con Tomate dish, available in the Wine Loft, featuring our exclusive Boatshed Butchery Jamón.

Spanish bartenders used to lay thin slices of jamón over the rims of wine glasses to protect the drinks from unwanted bugs and dust. This idea of the tapa, (translating to “top” or “lid"), grew into a custom of pairing small bites of cured meats and cheeses with Spain’s local wines. Although this is only one of many tapas origin stories in Spain, it highlights the strong ties of cured ham and wine.

Wines available to taste Friday, 24 March until Sunday, 26 March:

- Luis Canas Viura/Malvasia 2020 - $29 (RRP $35)

- Larchago Crianza Rioja 2019 - - $29 (RRP $35)

Marchand & Burch 2022 'Villages'

$199 per 6 pk (RRP $270)

16th Mar 2023 | Tasting & Events

$199 per 6 pk (RRP $270)

At the core of Marchand & Burch lies the understanding that fine wine should possess the distinctive imprint of its place, its ‘terroir’. The chosen site of Marchand & Burch's Australian collection is Mount Barrow Vineyard in the Great Southern Australia. Here the unique microclimate, Southern Ocean facing slopes and ancient gravel and granite soils create Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that speak solely to this location. The Villages wines are exuberant and ready to drink. This range is crafted from the vines at the bottom of the Mount Barrow vineyard and are matured in tank and larger format old oak barrels to emphasise their vibrancy and fruit freshness.

Chris Masten, from Off the Vine, will be sharing these wines with us on Saturday 18 March, 11 am – 2pm.

OPEN TO TASTE ALL WEEKEND:

  • Marchand & Burch Villages Chardonnay 2022
  • Marchand & Burch Villages Pinot Noir 2022
