This weekend, we have a trio of Spanish Grenache (Garnacha) showcasing a few of the different styles we have come to love in these cooler months. From dark, spicy and broody to bright, elegant and mineral driven, Grenache is an incredibly versatile variety. Focusing on the more refined side of Grenache, we have three wines sourced from higher altitude sites which gives way to wines that are fresher, brighter and more elegant, and pair magnificently with food - think Jamon, Conservas or hard cheeses.

Greece’s natural landscape is home to range of varietals that have long been cultivated to make some of the most interesting wines on the market. Greek wine is produced mainly from indigenous grapes; the terroirs are some of the best in the world and hugely varied; the climate supports widespread organic, traditional winemaking techniques and the wines are stunning value.

Our Italian cheesemonger, Katia Cappadocio, has hand-picked the Crémeux d’Argental to be featured in the Cheese & Wine Bar this weekend. This is a triple cream soft cheese made from cow’s milk in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its silky, buttery mouthfeel and savoury taste with a hint of fresh grass, paired with its edible white mould rind, make it a perfect addition to any cheese board. To complement the Crémeux d’Argental, our Wine Loft team has selected Barringwood Method Traditional Sparkling NV, Dalrymple Chardonnay 2020 and Dalrymple Pinot Noir 2022 from Tasmania, as well as the Gentle Folk 2022 Pinot Noir from Adelaide Hills. These wines have been specifically chosen to pair excellently with the cheese, enhancing the flavours of both the wine and the cheese.
Complimentary tasting in the Wine Loft this weekend, Friday 14 April - Sunday 16 April. From one of our favourites comes a newly released chilled red: La Violetta's Loosie Bouge. A blend of Zibibbo and Cab Franc, this is a bright, light red that's made to chill. One of the many reasons we love La Violetta wines is because they always deliver on aromatics and texture, and this is no exception! Pretty muscat florals, bright raspberry and cranberry. The palate is full-flavoured with textural goodness and soft acidity.

This weekend we are turning our focus to the award-winning Rioja region, featuring a bright, fresh Tempranillo and a barrel-fermented white, perfect for accompanying our new Jamón y Pan Con Tomate dish, available in the Wine Loft, featuring our exclusive Boatshed Butchery Jamón.
Spanish bartenders used to lay thin slices of jamón over the rims of wine glasses to protect the drinks from unwanted bugs and dust. This idea of the tapa, (translating to “top” or “lid"), grew into a custom of pairing small bites of cured meats and cheeses with Spain’s local wines. Although this is only one of many tapas origin stories in Spain, it highlights the strong ties of cured ham and wine.

- Luis Canas Viura/Malvasia 2020 - $29 (RRP $35)
- Larchago Crianza Rioja 2019 - - $29 (RRP $35)

At the core of Marchand & Burch lies the understanding that fine wine should possess the distinctive imprint of its place, its ‘terroir’. The chosen site of Marchand & Burch's Australian collection is Mount Barrow Vineyard in the Great Southern Australia. Here the unique microclimate, Southern Ocean facing slopes and ancient gravel and granite soils create Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that speak solely to this location. The Villages wines are exuberant and ready to drink. This range is crafted from the vines at the bottom of the Mount Barrow vineyard and are matured in tank and larger format old oak barrels to emphasise their vibrancy and fruit freshness.
Chris Masten, from Off the Vine, will be sharing these wines with us on Saturday 18 March, 11 am – 2pm.
OPEN TO TASTE ALL WEEKEND:
- Marchand & Burch Villages Chardonnay 2022
- Marchand & Burch Villages Pinot Noir 2022
