The Rhône Valley is one of the most historic regions for wine production, with evidence of winemaking going back over 2500 years! Join sommelier Maurice Hovens as he breaks down the Rhone Valley blend ‘GSM’ citing both international and local examples.

Part 1: Introduction of two main grapes, their origins and differences
(1) Ferrand Cotes du Rhone 'Mistral' (Grenache dominant)
(2) Nick O'Leary Shiraz 

Part 2: Introduction of Mourvedre, the role of each grape variety in a blend, and the difference between a blend dominated by respectively Mourvedre and Grenache
(3) Tour du Bon Bandol (Mourvedre dominant blend)
(4) Ruggabellus Timaeus (Grenache dominant blend) 

Part 3: Shiraz in debt, difference between cool and warm climate shiraz
(5) Michael Hall Flaxman's Syrah (Eden Valley)
(6) Michael Hall Stonewell Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

Amongst the 23 gins that we will be showcasing, we have the pleasure of introducing two new gins that are not available anywhere else in Australia and are exclusive to the Boatshed Wine Loft - Vor Icelandic Pot Distilled Gin and Iron Balls Gin. Join us in the Loft this Friday from 4 pm - we will be tasting the delicious wines from Luke Lambert. Luke is undoubtedly one of the hottest names in Australian wine. His thoughtful wines, crafted from exceptional sites in the Yarra Valley have struck a chord with wine drinkers in Australia and around the world. He makes vibrant, pure fruited Syrah and exceptionally complex Chardonnay from the Tibooburra Vineyard. His seasonal expressions of Nebbiolo from the Denton Vineyard have helped sparked a conversation in the region, with people talking about the potential for it to be the region’s next great variety.  Luke is not just making wines that are delicious, interesting and thought-provoking, he is making wines that are distinctive, wines that are unique and speak of place.  But they are also instantly recognisable as Luke Lambert wines, wines that couldn’t be made by anyone else.

Join us up in the Loft this Friday to taste the delicious Lowboi Riesling. Made by Guy Lyons’ - the head winemaker at Forrest Hill under his own label. The label features artwork by celebrated Aboriginal artist Bella Kelly. This Rielsing is powerful, zesty, fresh. It is whole bunch pressed and portion fermented in stainless steel, portion in ceramic egg! 

Yarra Yering & Warramate Tasting

Established in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus, Yarra Yering is one of the oldest vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Dr Bailey Carrodus is credited as being a driving force behind the revival of the Yarra Valley, now one of Australia’s most celebrated wine regions. Since his passing, Sarah Crowe has taken the reigns. In 2017 Sarah was awarded “Wine maker of the Year”, the first female winemaker to be awarded this honor.

Caipirinha Masterclass with Germana Cachaca
