Open for complimentary tasting this Easter long weekend in the Wine Loft!
At Fattoria Le Fonti they know how the hare runs - not least because the surrounding vineyards are home to many of these hopping contemporaries. The house wine of Fattoria Le Fonti is named after the rabbit - the "Lepre", which of course is also depicted on the label of the wine bottle. The La Lepre is pressed from Sangiovese grapes with an admixture of Merlot - depending on the vintage 5 to 15 per cent. As always, these grapes, which naturally grow in the same vineyards as the grapes for all the other Le Fonti wines, are harvested by hand. The subsequent fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruity aromas. The La Lepre then matures for eight months in used French oak barrels - after which the "young hare" is bottled. With its fruitiness, freshness and good acidity, it is the ideal accompaniment to food - simply and poignantly with a pizza!

When it comes to Tuscan wine, Sangiovese is king. Although the grape appears in many appellations within the region, that does not mean all Tuscan reds taste the same and it demonstrates how different Sangiovese can taste. This Chianti has all of the classic hallmarks that wine lovers look for in a great Sangiovese. Fresh, balanced and expressive – a perfumed nose of cherry, violets and berries wrapped up in spice. The palate walks the tightrope between sweet and savoury with the fine grain tannins carrying through into a long finish. Chianti Superiore wines are aged for 1 year, of which 9 months must be in oak. They can come from anywhere in Chianti, outside of the Chianti Classico region. A delicious drop perfect for these cooler months!
Expressions of Chardonnay Part III: Mâconnais vs Margaret River

COMPLIMENTARY TASTING IN THE LOFT
Friday, 25 March - Sunday, 27 March 2022
Join us for the final installment of our three part Expressions of Chardonnay Tasting this weekend in the Loft. This weekend we will be tasting two Chardonnay wines one hailing from the great region of Mâconnais and the other from the highly esteemed region of Margaret River.
Domaine Thibert Mâcon-Prissé, Burgundy 2018
Simpson Estate Elaine Chardonnay 2019
The Mâconnais aromas suggest broom, white roses, acacia, honeysuckle, fern, verbena, lemon-grass, and citrus fruits (grapefruit, mandarin oranges). In the mouth, the finish adds nuances of pine, quince and fennel. The wines are fresh and luscious as well as dry and well-fruited. They have good concentration backed by sufficient acidity to ensure their keeping qualities.
Margaret River is one of Australia’s foremost chardonnay regions. James Halliday explains the beauty of Margaret River chardonnay is in its contrasts. “It combines an almost shocking voluptuousness with an iron-clad structure, intensity with generosity, and sweet fruit with flowing natural acidity,” he says. Margaret River chardonnay ages well, developing in complexity with time.

Côte Chalonnaise chardonnays boast a clear complexion with grey-gold highlights. Aromas consist of white flowers (hawthorn, honeysuckle), dried fruits over notes of lemon and sometimes anise, with a suggestion of warm croissants and honey. In the mouth it is fleshy, well turned-out and thoroughly sure of itself. It has a lively, no-nonsense attack with just the right amount of delicacy.
Macedon Ranges produces fine-boned chardonnay, with flavours that range from citrus to stone fruit and mineral notes, is found here, although the winemaking that can be applied to this variety means many variations on a theme.

Open for complimentary tasting in the Loft! Friday, 4 March - Sunday, 6 March 2022 Sarah Adamson and Greg Lane are both partners in winemaking and in life. Together they've formed new wine label Scout. Together they have worked around the world - in recent times Sarah was a winemaker at Jim Barrys, and Greg at Shaw and Smith. Their premise for Scout is simple – great parcels of fruit from South Australia and the South Island of New Zealand. What a wine - a mix of wholebunch Pinot Noir and some skin-fermented Pinot Gris. The result? A wildly drinkable Pinot blend, that features a wash of bright red fruit, silky soft tannins and some lovely lemongrass and ginger characters. All in all, it's a fun wine that rates very high on the drinkability scale. Can easily handle a light chill, and as such is a go-to wine for warmer months.
